After you’ve finally plucked up the courage to ‘put a ring on it’, it’s time to start thinking about the honeymoon. But knowing where to go for your most significant holiday can be a real dilemma.
Luckily for you, we’ve enlisted 20 of the best couple bloggers on the planet to share their advice on this troublesome topic. So from Nepal to New Zealand, the Galapagos to the Maldives, all you have to say is ‘I do’… again.
We spent our honeymoon in Mauritius and it couldn’t have been a better choice. From sparkling blue waters, endless stretches of powdery sand, lush hills and fields of sugarcane, the topography was everything a paradise island should be made of. Even the tropical weather was perfect for frolicking in the water or lazing in a hammock. Add to that everything Creole – from the colourful clothing, spectacular dances, affable people, and a mouth-wateringly indulgent cuisine, it was enough to steal our hearts forever. From swimming with dolphins and dancing on the seabed to fishing and cruising, hiking and rum tasting, no matter what kind of couple you are, you’re bound to find something you’ll love. We know we did.

The Galápagos Islands are a perfect destination for any newlywed couples: white sandy beaches, the Pacific’s transparent blue water, ancient volcanoes, and cosy hotels among mangroves await for honeymooners. Make the most important vacation of your lifetime even more romantic by travelling to faraway and almost uninhabited islands to enjoy a tropical paradise just for you two. Flamingos, sea lions, black iguanas, frigate birds, and blue-footed boobies will follow you wherever you go, allowing you to feel in unity with nature. Don’t forget to enjoy couple diving and swim with turtles and hammerhead sharks.

Palawan in the Philippines is definitely one of the most romantic and beautiful places which would make a great honeymoon destination. We have travelled to different parts of the world and yet find ourselves going back there again and again. In fact, we even have a photo diary on why we think Palawan is paradise on earth. The pristine beaches, the crystal clear waters, and the many uninhabited lagoons and private beaches… bliss! There are two high-end resorts located on secluded islands where staff gladly arrange a romantic dinner for two on a sandbar. But the real highlight of going to Palawan is boating around, discovering different islands and coves. We suggest hiring your own boat instead of joining a tour and venturing out on your own. If you do this, the boatmen can also arrange a private beach BBQ for just the two of you! It doesn’t get better than that.

Hawaii might sound like a stereotypical honeymoon destination, at least if you are from the USA. But, believe us, there’s more to this tropical state than stunning beaches and gorgeous landscapes. Hawaii is full of natural beauty, there’s no doubt about it. That, of course, makes it a pretty romantic place to spend quality time with your loved one. But beyond all things pretty, Hawaii offers a lot of opportunities for adventure, too! Still, if you ask us, there’s nothing more romantic than booking yourself into a treehouse hotel, where it’s just you, nature and your passion!

Near the Mexico-Belize border is a small beach town called Xcalak. We’ve visited this remote destination several times and can’t wait to return. Xcalak is ideal for a beach honeymoon – there’s no mass tourism and the turquoise water is unspoilt by development. Xcalak’s accommodations are mostly off-grid and solar powered, but comfort isn’t compromised – picture a bright, airy suite decorated with seashells and a sweeping view of the Caribbean Sea from your balcony. We love to watch the sunrise over the water and listen to the coconut palms swaying in the breeze. It feels like we have our very own beach. You won’t soon forget a honeymoon in Xcalak.

Throughout our travels we’ve found many amazing romantic places around the world, but there’s one place in particular that stands out as a perfect and unique honeymoon destination. Almunecar is a small town located in the south of Spain. Along the coast, it offers a quiet escape for lovebirds looking to enjoy some newlywed bliss with some spectacular views. Unbelievable sunrises match stunning sunsets almost every day and add to the romance of this peaceful seaside town. Only a short drive away from some of the country’s larger cities, Almunecar also boasts some fantastic beaches, restaurants and coffee shops, and has history woven within each step taken through the town. Idyllic and infused with Spanish culture, history and cuisine, Almunecar is a stunning setting for a memorable honeymoon.

We’ve been to many beautiful and romantic locations but, because we’re a couple that loves the outdoors, if I had to do my honeymoon over again I would spend it walking the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. The people of Nepal are lovely, the mountains are stunning, and there’s no better way to connect with your loved one than to walk hundreds of miles together.

Having been to some of the prettiest countries in the world, it’s a hard decision to make, but if we had to pick our favourite destination for a honeymoon, it’d be New Zealand. The breathtaking scenery, the tranquility, and the abundance of natural beauty we encountered on our recent road trip in New Zealand left us gobsmacked. There were times when we had to tear ourselves away from a spot where we were picnicking – the scenes in New Zealand were straight out of a postcard. From magnetic fuschia lupins to sun-soaked beaches, New Zealand has everything a couple needs from a romantic getaway

For two years we’ve travelled full-time, visiting some incredibly beautiful places along the way. But no place has been as romantic as Cape Town, our base for 3 months. Besides the stunning wild geography (if your idea of romance includes hikes, this is your spot), there are beautiful beaches, wonderful sunsets and the most colourful plant life we’ve seen anywhere. The wines are fantastic and we’ve never eaten as well, at such good value, as we have in South Africa. Want romance? Try a sunset view of the city from Table Mountain, a picnic at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, or a day at the vineyards in Stellenbosch. It’s the perfect honeymoon destination.

We had an absolutely horrible honeymoon so were delighted to be asked to recommend an ideal location to spend your honeymoon. Our recommendation is Lake Bled, Slovenia. Located at the southern end of the Austrian Alps, it’s one of the most picturesque and romantic places on earth. There’s a small church on an island at the centre of the lake. You can rent rowboats to get out to it. There are so many hikes and wonderful day trips to take from Lake Bled. Best of all, Slovenia is very affordable. Make Lake Bled your choice!

Sorrento and the rest of the Amalfi Coast is an amazing place for a honeymoon! The food is incredible, which isn’t so surprising considering you’re in Italy. Food is more of an experience here. Cliffs scattered with coloured homes that look as if they were part of the cliffs themselves are breathtaking. Sorrento is the perfect base for day trips to Pompeii, the island of Capri, Positano and Amalfi. It’s also nice to do nothing except wander the streets lined with shops and restaurants, then grab some local wine and head to a park overlooking the water. Perfection!

As newlyweds in Japan, sleep on futons on a tatami floor in a ryokan, soak in an onsen in Hakone, stroll hand-in-hand along the Philosopher’s Path in Kyoto, cheer on a 150 kg sumo wrestler or navigate the metro system during peak hour in Tokyo. Then there are the culinary delights that you get to share together for the first time as nuptials. Ramens, udons and sushi… oh my! What is that saying again? “The way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach!” These experiences will bring you closer together. They will confirm how much you love travelling with your significant other, and how you can survive anything (especially if you can survive the metro system during peak hour). If you can travel with someone, you can live with them. Japan is a place where you can honeymoon as slow or as fast as you like. We did all of the above mentioned things on our honeymoon and loved it!

A city known as the Venice of the East, Udaipur is famous for its lakes, palaces, forts and romantic viewpoints. This dreamy destination has been the backdrop of many famous movies including James Bond’s Octopussy. The main Lake of Udaipur is called Lake Pichola which is surrounded by heritage hotels (havelis) and restaurants that offer spectacular views. When in Udaipur, we highly recommend booking a room that overlooks the lake and the city’s blue and white landscape.

Our favourite honeymoon destination is Thailand, particularly the Thai Islands. We love the beaches, the food, the energy and the people. Thailand has so many islands where you can still find secluded beaches with crystal clear water and no one else in sight. On other islands, you have busy cities with top restaurants and bars overlooking the sea. It’s perfect if you want the best of both worlds in only one trip. Plus, Thai hospitality is incredible. You’ll be pampered from head to toe with the best massages ever. Our favorite islands in Thailand are Koh Tao, Koh Lanta, Phuket and the Krabi region, all worth visiting and enjoying with your loved one!

Where can you find white, sandy beaches, an ocean that is warmer than your local heated pool, and rum that flows like a river? Our favourite Caribbean Island, Jamaica! We were married and honeymooned at the Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay in December 2014. The weather was 85-90 degrees fahrenheit and sunny. The food is amazing and so fresh. Plus, Jamaicans are so friendly and there’s so much to do: swimming with crocodiles, jumping off cliffs, and exploring waterfalls. If exploring isn’t for you and you just want to relax, grab a rum punch or red stripe and sit on the beach.

I remember it like it was yesterday… the day Stephen proposed to me below the stars on our own private beach in the Maldives. This memory will always stay with me and it’s such a fond memory that I would return to that very same tropical island, where he got down on one knee, to celebrate us tying the knot. I’ve been looking for an excuse to return to the Maldives, and arguably no one would decline a honeymoon on an island surrounded by crystal clear waters while having your very own private bungalow. I can still picture the almost silent waves breaking on the white sand as crabs scatter underneath the palm trees.

Bermuda is a romantic destination for a memorable honeymoon getaway. Famous for its pink sand beaches and sparkling turquoise waters, Bermuda is one of the best places to relax and soak up the sunshine together. There’s no shortage of outdoor adventures, whether you’d like to discover underground caves, go snorkelling, or try cliff jumping. Rent a pair of scooters so you can explore the entire island at your own pace. And don’t forget to try the official beverages of Bermuda, the “Rum Swizzle” and the “Dark n’ Stormy.” The locals in Bermuda are incredibly friendly, so you’re bound to make a few new friends while you’re there. Visiting Bermuda is an unforgettable experience, and it’s the perfect place to start this new chapter of your lives together.

When many people think of their perfect honeymoon destination, they focus on beaches and palm trees. But what about the foodies out there, who would rather sip sparkling wine and dine on truffles during their honeymoon? Italy is the perfect place for a foodie-filled honeymoon, and one of the top culinary tourism destinations. An Italian destination many people overlook is Emilia Romagna, home to the cities of Bologna, Modena, and Parma. It’s the breadbasket of Italy, and home to the best Italian food. It’s the perfect place to meet winemakers and to learn how cheese and Italian cured meats are made, all while enjoying fantastic meals at quaint trattorias.

This dazzling stretch along the Coral Sea has become Australia’s playground for food, fun, surf, and sun. From the first look at the towering skyline and enticing water, newlyweds will know they’ve struck gold. Spend a day on the waves then hit the Kurrawa Surf Club for great seaside seafood. Or, speaking of seafood, the Gold Coast Fishermen’s Co-Op allows a group of boats to set up shop on the docks and sell their morning catch directly off the boat. For the bride and groom who want more adventure, there are trips to the Great Barrier Reef or prove your love, and bravery, at Australia’s largest theme park, where a courageous couple can feed an enormous crocodile! It’s sure to be a honeymoon to remember.

India is without a doubt one of the most geographically diverse countries in the world and would make an incredible honeymoon destination. From the Himalayas in the north to the sun-kissed beaches of the south, from big cities to little villages and from simple backpacker guesthouses to hotels fit for royalty, India’s got it all covered. Start with some real adventure exploring Buddhist monasteries in the high desert city of Leh in Ladakh surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Himalayas. Spend some time travelling through the mountain villages of Himachal Pradesh or drive an old Royal Enfield along the mountain roads while admiring the jaw-dropping scenery. Visit temples, eat amazing food and interact with the friendly locals. When time comes for some R&R, head south to the stunning beaches of Goa and Kerala. Join locals and tourists alike for beach parties and festivals on the Goan sands, spend a few romantic nights on a houseboat in the Keralan backwaters or enjoy being pampered in the home of Ayurvedic massage. Every day in India holds something new, it never fails to impress and will leave you with amazing memories that will last a lifetime.
